Battle Of The Smart Home Thermostats
We’re a very strange and particular type of species, we don’t settle for what is. We like things just right. As a result, we invented smart home thermostats to keep the balance. In fact, they do a great job at it too as soon as they begin to learn your living habits and how you like it. As you know, there is nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night sweating from the heat or waking up in the morning and it’s completely freezing. It can really make a difference to your day when things are just right.
The question is, which smart home thermostat is the best at keeping the balance? Is it going to be Googles Nest or their upcoming rival Ecobee. In the following article will take you through the various pros and cons of both thermostats to help you decide which one is the best for keeping your balance.
Nest Vs Ecobee – Which is the best wireless smart home thermostat?
Let’s kick it off with Nest
Nest is a huge sub brand for Google and a really credible one at that. Not only do Nest create one (if not) the best smart home thermostat on the market, they also protect your home with smart home security cameras, smart home doorbells and much more. Whereas Ecobees primary focus as of right now is smart home thermostat. However, give it time to catch up with one of the largest brands in the world.
Getting back to the argument at hand, Nest thermostat. Currently this smart home device retails for approximately $220 MSRP. The great thing about these devices is that they begin to learn your habits adjusting the temperature without your manual input to suit your perfect climate. In fourth iteration of this device you no longer have to control the device with a dial but you can use either your voice or the app making it more accessible if you’re in another room. The device also comes with the ability to change the face if that’s your sort of thing.
If you are looking to buy Nest you should also consider a Nest Sensor
Unfortunately, the standard temperature set throughout the house might not accommodate all rooms. As you know yourself there are some rooms that get warmer or colder than others. As a result, this temperature might not be ideal for the whole house. As a solution, Google created a little companion called Nest Sensor which controls the temperature within a particular room.
The underdog – Ecobee4
Just like every great artist, they steal. In this case, Ecobee4 is stealing a few features from the latest generation of Nest in that it learns your daily habits to adapt the temperature to your ideal setting. In addition, it will also cool your home using your air conditioning unit provided you don’t have a dehumidifier.
Similarly, Ecobee offer sensors that will allow you to adjust the temperature in a particular room if needs be.
The key difference between the two
Despite the fact that both of these devices are pretty much identical there is one key difference that sets them apart. Nest is mainly looking to seek out partnerships that create exclusive deals with other devices which means they will only work with Nest. In this case, Nest is not as compatible with other devices. However, Ecobee on the other hand is compatible with a range of devices even including Google Home. Which is quite ironic if you ask me.
Which is best for you?
Smart home thermostats are becoming more of a commodity product and soon it will come down to which is the lower price. As you can see from our analysis both devices are pretty much identical and Google has positioned themselves as the leading brand in the game so far however this may change over the coming years.
